The WSA was initiated in 2003 in the framework of the UN World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS) held in Geneva.
The WSA selects and promotes local digital innovation improving society. It is a non-monetary award system with a focus on sustainable knowledge transfer through a worldwide network. WSA Australia is the Australian Local Chapter of the World Summit Awards Global Platform. Applicants selected by the WSA Australia will be Nominated by the National Expert to the World Summit Awards Global Contest.
WSA Australia is a Highly Diverse & Democratic Awarding System, that selects and promotes Australia’s Best Digital Innovations with positive impact on local society. Annually, each WSA Australia local application that stands out from its respective category is nominated to represent Australia at the WSA Global Competition. These nominees get the opportunity to contend alongside highly competitive nominations from over 180 United Nations member countries, on their ability to make positive Local & Social Impact in the context of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
