Attendance Grants for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Women

Date/Deadline: 25 Aug, 2022

Women & Leadership Australia pledges $100,000 to help support leadership development for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Full attendance grants available for the 2022 Australian Women’s Leadership Symposiums.

In 2018, Women & Leadership Australia (WLA) teamed up with the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) to launch a series of full-attendance grants to support the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women leaders, in celebration of the 2018 NAIDOC Week theme – ‘Because of her, we can!’.

As part of the 2022 Australian Women’s Leadership Symposiums, WLA is once again offering 64 full attendance grants (valued at over $100,000) to current and aspiring women leaders to attend the Symposiums. The purpose of the grants is to ensure the views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are represented at the events and help support the development of strong and effective leadership across Australia’s indigenous communities.

The Australian Women’s Leadership Symposiums are a national series of events focused on the experiences of women in the contemporary workforce. Held annually, in every state and territory, the Symposiums have been running for over ten years and have become the most highly attended women’s leadership events in the country.

The Symposiums are a valuable opportunity for female leaders to come together to hear from an exceptional line up of inspirational guest speakers and explore topics including gender equality, leadership, career advancement and life fulfilment. Women from every sector, industry, background and level attend the Symposiums each year, and this diversity allows participants to learn from each other’s experiences and be empowered to move forward on their leadership journey.

The grants will be awarded to current and aspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who play active roles at the community, local and state levels, and who would otherwise be unable to attend the Symposiums due to a lack of funding or employer support.

Grant selection criteria:

– Applicants identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander;
– Applicants must be 18 years or older from the date of the event they are applying to attend;
– Applicants who are emerging and/or aspiring leaders within the public or private sector, or within their communities will be highly regarded

Please note that the grants do not cover flights or accommodation costs associated with attendance at the Symposiums.

Applications close 6 weeks prior to each state event. Successful applicants will be contacted by WLA shortly after applications close.
