Social Enterprise: 3 THINGS to Know, Read and Hear

We get it. Life is crazy and balancing out your time can be super hard. With so much going on it’s difficult stay ahead of the learning game and easy to lose track of what's happening in the world of social impact. The trick is to stop trying to read everything out there. There’s too much. And you’re too busy. Instead, give us roughly 3 minutes each fortnight and we'll brief you on the 3 THINGS you need to know, read and hear. If you're passionate about creating positive social and environmental impact, our handpicked content is all you need to stay informed and inspired.

For the week ending 19/08/2018, here's...

What you need to KNOW:

Understanding the Social Enterprise Sector in Sydney. Join us for a workshop and ‘Meet & Mingle’ on Thursday 30 August - and have your voice counted as part of the growing community around social enterprise in Sydney. This event, proudly support by Social Change Central, is part of a project to help the City of Sydney understand the social enterprise sector in order to better serve it. Meet like-minded people who are passionate about social enterprise, and identify the best ways to encourage and support the development of the sector in Sydney and beyond. Can’t make it? We’d love to hear from you in this survey. You could win a $300 voucher to FOLONOMO, Sydney's first "Profit for Purpose" restaurant.

What you need to READ:

Tech for Good: 5 Disability Organisations to Watch. From online platforms that help people find support workers who share their interests, to gadgets that help people complete everyday tasks, these businesses are proving that technology to assist and empower people with disabilities is market in and of itself.

What you need to HEAR:

Dan Madhavan's Keynote Address at Impact Seed's 2018 Impact Investment Showcase. A sell out event and a highlight of the Social Impact Festival, Impact Seed’s Pitch Night bought together members of the startup, business and angel investor community who came along to see a selection of WA’s best ‘business for good’ startups pitch for investment. The evening featured special guest Dan Madhavan (CEO of Impact Investment Group, and former CEO of national peak body - Impact Investing Australia) who spoke on the importance of growing an impact investment and social enterprise ecosystem, to create the world we want to live in, and shared stories from his many years in this space. His advice included the gem “Do something – don’t make perfect the benchmark. That’s like making Romeo and Juliet your ideal relationship – you’ll only die alone.”
